“Copper is a living material that evolves with time. Through handcrafted textures, geometry, and natural patina, I transform metal into a visual meditation on balance, growth, and self-discovery.”
About Me
Abhijit Salunkhe is a contemporary Indian visual artist specializing in copper-sheet art, repoussé, embossing, and patina-based surface treatments. His work explores the intersection of traditional Indian craftsmanship and contemporary artistic expression, creating artworks that are both visually compelling and philosophically meaningful.
Inspired by Indian philosophical traditions, particularly the timeless concept of “Tattvamasi” (That Thou Art), Salunkhe’s creations reflect the relationship between material form, spiritual awareness, and cultural identity. His signature Tattvamasi series demonstrates how traditional metalworking techniques can be reimagined to communicate modern artistic ideas while preserving their historical essence.
Beyond his artistic practice, Abhijit Salunkhe is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of artists. He believes that technical excellence and conceptual understanding should evolve together, encouraging students to master traditional craftsmanship while adapting it to contemporary creative practices. His teaching approach helps learners develop practical skills alongside a deeper appreciation of the cultural, historical, and philosophical dimensions of art.
Through his artworks, workshops, and educational initiatives, Abhijit Salunkhe continues to contribute to the evolving landscape of contemporary Indian metal art, preserving traditional techniques while inspiring innovative artistic expression.
“For me, copper is not simply a sheet of metal—it is a living canvas that carries memory, transformation, and time. Every hammer mark, embossed texture, and layer of natural patina contributes to a story that unfolds through craftsmanship and artistic vision. Inspired by the rhythms of nature, sacred geometry, and Indian philosophical thought, my work explores the balance between stillness and movement, tradition and innovation, material and spirit. Through each handcrafted artwork, I strive to create more than a visual object; I seek to offer an experience that encourages reflection, celebrates heritage, and reveals the enduring beauty of metal shaped by human hands.”
